eBike technology explained

I'm new to the forum and have been looking into getting a folding eBike for my commute – about 10 miles each way, mostly flat city streets with a few small hills. I'm really curious about the tech inside these compact wonders. Specifically, how do manufacturers manage to integrate powerful motors and decent-sized batteries without making them clunky or compromising the fold? Are there particular motor types (hub vs. mid-drive) that are better suited for folding bikes, and why? Would love to hear your insights!
