New to eBikes - where to start?

by JamesW_Biker4 days ago

Hey everyone!

I'm totally new to the eBike world and feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the options out there. I'm really interested in a folding eBike because I live in a small apartment and need something I can easily store and potentially take on public transport for my 5-mile commute, which has a few decent hills. For those of you with folding eBikes, what are the absolute must-have features or brands I should be looking into first? Any advice on what to prioritize when shopping would be awesome!

Welcome to the eBike world! For a folding eBike with hills and public transport in mind, definitely prioritize motor power (at least 500W, maybe even 750W for those hills) and a good battery capacity for your 5-mile commute plus some buffer. I've had great experiences with brands like Lectric and Rad Power Bikes for solid, affordable folders that handle hills well, but also check out Tern or Brompton Electric if your budget allows for premium portability. Don't forget to consider the folded dimensions and weight, as that's key for public transport!

Welcome to the eBike world! For folding eBikes, especially with hills and public transport in mind, definitely prioritize models with at least a 500W motor and a decent-sized battery (e.g., 48V 10-14Ah) for reliable hill climbing and range. Look into brands like Lectric, Rad Power Bikes (their RadExpand), or Tern for solid, well-regarded options that balance performance and portability. Also, consider the folded dimensions and weight – some fold smaller/lighter than others, which is key for apartment living and public transport.

Welcome to the eBike world! For folding eBikes, especially with hills and public transport in mind, definitely prioritize models with at least a 500W motor and a decent battery capacity (e.g., 48V 13Ah or more) for those inclines and range. I've found brands like Lectric, Rad Power Bikes (their RadExpand), and Aventon (e.g., Sinch) offer great value and solid performance in the folding category, often with good community support too. Don't forget to check the folded dimensions and weight to make sure it truly fits your apartment and public transport needs!
