Legal regulations for eBikes

Hey everyone!

Been thinking a lot about DIY mods lately, especially with some of the cool stuff I've seen people do to boost their eBikes. My current ride is a Class 1 hardtail, and I'm always tempted to tinker. But it got me wondering, for those of you who've done motor or speed controller upgrades, how do you navigate the legal side of things? Are you worried about reclassifying your eBike, or does it just depend on where you ride? Would love to hear your experiences and thoughts!
