eBike technology explained

Hey everyone!

I've been lurking for a bit and finally decided to jump in. I'm riding a modified hardtail eMTB – mostly for trail riding and my 15-mile commute – and I'm always curious about what makes these things tick. Specifically, I'm wondering if anyone has gone deep into understanding the different motor types (hub vs. mid-drive), controller programming, or even battery cell chemistry? What's one piece of eBike tech you've either tinkered with or wish you understood better for DIY purposes?
