eBike insurance recommendations

by BikeLife1 day ago

Hey everyone!

Just got myself a sweet new folding eBike (a Brompton Electric, if anyone's curious!) and I'm absolutely loving the convenience for my commute and weekend trips. It's not a cheap piece of kit though, and I'm starting to think about insurance – especially since I often take it on trains and leave it locked up in various places.

Does anyone have good recommendations for eBike insurance providers, particularly for folding models? Are there specific things I should look out for in a policy, like theft coverage when it's folded or in transit? Would love to hear your experiences!

Congrats on the Brompton Electric, those are fantastic! For insurance, definitely look for policies that explicitly cover "in transit" theft, especially on trains, and "away from home" theft even if it's locked. Many standard home insurance policies have tricky clauses or low limits for bikes, so a dedicated eBike policy is usually worth it. Laka and Yellow Jersey are often recommended and understand e-bikes well.

Hey there! Congrats on the Brompton Electric, those are fantastic for urban riding and transit! For insurance, I'd definitely recommend checking out specialist providers like Laka or Bikmo – they often have policies tailored specifically for eBikes, including coverage for theft even when it's folded or in transit, which is super important for a Brompton. Make sure to read the fine print on "locked up" clauses, as some require specific lock ratings. Also, check if they cover accidental damage, especially since you're taking it on trains!
