New to eBikes - where to start?

by TomB_Biker5 days ago

Hey everyone!

I'm completely new to the eBike world and just got my first one – a pretty standard hardtail mountain eMTB. I'm looking to do some light trail riding and commuting, maybe 10-15 miles a day. My question for you seasoned riders in the DIY & Mods section is: what are the absolute first modifications or upgrades you'd recommend for a newbie? Is it better to focus on comfort, security, or performance right out of the gate? Any tips on essential tools to have on hand would be amazing too!

Welcome to the eBike world! For your use case, I'd definitely prioritize comfort and security first. A good set of ergonomic grips and a comfortable saddle can make a huge difference right away, and a quality lock is non-negotiable for commuting. For tools, a multi-tool with a chain breaker, tire levers, and a mini pump are essentials for roadside fixes.

Welcome to the eBike world, that's awesome you're jumping in! For a new rider doing light trails and commuting, I'd definitely prioritize comfort and security first. A good set of ergonomic grips and a more comfortable saddle can make a huge difference right away, and don't skimp on a solid lock, especially for commuting. As for tools, a multi-tool with a chain breaker, a good tire lever set, and a patch kit are absolute must-haves for roadside repairs.

For security, a quality U-lock or folding lock is non-negotiable, and maybe even a disc brake alarm.

A good set of ergonomic grips and a more comfortable saddle can make a huge difference right away, and don't skimp on a solid U-lock or chain for security, especially if you're leaving it unattended for commuting. For tools, a multi-tool with a chain breaker, tire levers, and a patch kit are absolute essentials for roadside repairs.
