Best eBike brands overall

Been lurking for a bit and finally decided to jump in and start a discussion. I'm really curious about what brands you all consider the "best overall" when it comes to eBikes, especially from a custom build perspective. Are we talking about the best motors and batteries to source for a DIY project, or perhaps frames that are particularly well-suited for electrification?

I'm planning a new commuter build for some hilly city terrain, probably a hardtail mountain bike frame, and I'm weighing my options for a mid-drive kit. What brands have given you the most reliable performance and best support if you've gone the custom route? I'd love to hear your experiences!
