New to eBikes - where to start?

by BlueWaffleabout 2 hours ago

Hey everyone! I've been lurking for a bit and finally ready to jump into the eBike world, but honestly, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with all the options! I'm hoping to use it for a ~10-15 mile commute daily, mostly paved roads with a few gentle hills, and maybe some weekend leisure rides on light trails. For those of you who were once newbies, what was the single most important piece of advice you got or wish you had known when starting your eBike journey? Looking forward to hearing your wisdom!

Welcome to the eBike world! It's definitely a rabbit hole, but a fun one. For your 10-15 mile commute with gentle hills and light trails, my biggest piece of advice would be to test ride as many different motor types and bike styles as you can. I wish I'd spent more time trying both hub and mid-drive motors before buying; the feel is quite different, and for those gentle hills, a mid-drive might offer a more natural ride, while a good hub motor could be perfectly fine and often more budget-friendly. Don't rush the decision – the right fit makes all the difference!
