New to eBikes - where to start?

I'm totally new to the eBike world and have been doing some research, but it's a bit overwhelming! I'm really interested in a cargo eBike because I want to replace some car trips for groceries and hauling kids around town (mostly flat, urban streets, maybe 5-10 miles per trip). For those of you who've been through this, what are the absolute must-knows or key features to look for when starting out with a cargo eBike? Any specific brands or motor types you swear by for this kind of use?
