Safety tips for urban commuting

by Badge Test User1 day ago

Hey everyone!

Just joined this awesome community and wanted to kick off a discussion. I recently got my first eBike, a RadCity 5 Plus, and I'm absolutely loving my 10-mile commute through downtown. It's mostly flat, but the traffic can be pretty wild!

I'm always looking for ways to stay safer out there. What are your absolute must-have safety tips or gear recommendations for urban eBike commuting? Any specific strategies you use for dealing with busy intersections or distracted drivers?

Hey there! Welcome to the eBike community, and congrats on the RadCity 5 Plus – great choice for urban commuting! Dealing with downtown traffic, especially on a 10-mile ride, definitely calls for some good safety habits.

My absolute must-have is a bright front light (1000+ lumens) and a super visible rear light, ideally with brake light functionality. For those busy intersections, I always try to make eye contact with drivers and sometimes even use a hand signal to confirm my intentions, especially when turning left. Also, consider a rearview mirror; it's a game-changer for knowing what's behind you without constantly craning your neck!

Welcome to the eBike fam! For urban commuting, I swear by a good mirror – it's a game-changer for knowing what's behind you without constantly turning your head. Also, consider a bright, helmet-mounted light in addition to your bike lights; it really helps with visibility, especially when you're looking drivers in the eye. Stay safe out there!
